The Forgotten Door

Author: Alexander Key
Stars: 5

A boy able to talk to animals and read people’s minds falls through a door to the Earth. Can he find his way home before he is trapped on Earth forever?

Synopsis:
While viewing the stars one night, Little Jon falls through and ancient moss-covered door to Earth. When he regains consciousness, his memory is gone. He can’t even remember his own name. But one thing is certain: he doesn’t belong on this planet.

He narrowly escapes capture by a hunter. He is alone, injured, and hungry. He waits by the road until he senses a friendly family passing by, then steps into the roadway. The Beans are a loving family. They take Little Jon home and care for him. Little did they know that he would change their lives forever.

This is one of my most favorite books as a child and I’m still very fond of it. I know what it feels like to be “not from here.” I have often wished I could visit a world like Jon’s homeworld.

Recommendations:
This book is “clean, tame, and wholesome.” It contains no bad language, no sex or romance, and minimal violence.

Editorial Reviews:
“Well-written fantasy with strong character emphasis and empathy” from the author of the sci-fi classic Escape to Witch Mountain (Kirkus Reviews).
